New Mario Kart Update Unlocks the Speed

Mario Kart 8Last week Nintendo unleashed 200cc mode through an update to the game. It immediately made the game so much faster than it had been and added another new level of challenge. Many people were confused by the update because the content wasn’t unlocked immediately. You had to either play online to race that face or unlock it through the game’s single player progression. In order to access it offline you had to have finished 150cc mode and gotten at least first place in every cup, if not at least one gold star.

Nintendo released a new update today that, along with “improving the overall gameplay experience,” also unlocked Mirror Mode and 200cc from the start. Now every, after updating the game, will have access to the insanity that is that speed. I highly recommend playing Baby Park at 200cc. it’s an incredible, hectic and upredictable experience.

Mario Kart 8 DLC Tracks Revealed

Baby_ParkDuring Nintendo’s most recent Nintendo Direct presentation they talked about the upcoming DLC pack for Mario Kart 8. It’s been moved from sometime in May up to April 23rd so we’re not that far off. They only talked about the new Animal Crossing track during the presentation so people immediately began speculating what the other tracks could be. Well, now we now. There are four classic tracks and four new tracks joining the list. They include:

  • Baby Park – Mario Kart Double Dash
  • Ribbon Road – Mario Kart Super Circuit
  • Neo Bowser City – Mario Kart 7
  • Cheese Land – Mario Kart Super Circuit
  • Nature Road
  • Big Blue
  • Lingling Metro
  • Animal Crossing

Also included in this DLC pack are the three new characters Villager, Isabella and Dry Bowser. There are also six new vehicles. Launching alongside the new DLC pack is a free update that will include a new faster 200cc speed, which is crazy fast from the videos we’ve seen.

You can pick up the new DLC pack for $7.99 or if you haven’t yet picked up the first pack you can get a bundle of both of $11.99.

Baby Park Returning to Mario Kart?

Mario Kart 8 DLC TracksWe’re just a few days away from the release of DLC pack two for Mario Kart 8 on Wii U. One enterprising user was able to get a hold of data within the game’s file system and it showed them a list of the game’s tracks. What was interesting was that the data associated with the first pack of DLC showed not only the 8 tracks that were released with that pack, but also entries for five other tracks. In the picture above you can see those listed. The top half shows all of the tracks that were added. The bottom half has info on the other five. Among that information for tracks not released is Neo Bowser City from the 3DS version of Mario Kart 7 and Baby Park. There is also information for what appears to be three original tracks. One of them is the new Animal Crossing track. The other two are unknown at this point.

Does this signal the return of my favorite track of all-time, Baby Park? I hope so. It was re-released on the DS version of Mario Kart, but it would not be the first track re-released for a second time. The SNES version of Rainbow Road has been released twice at this point as DLC. What do the other two new tracks that show up signify? My guess is some Toad Highway style track that takes place in a city and another track buried deep in a forest, maybe the Forest of Illusion from Super Mario Bros. 3?

DLC Pack 2 for Mario Kart 8 is set for release on April 23rd. It also includes three new characters, Isabella and Villager from Animal Crossing and Dry Bowser. There will also be some new vehicles and eight tracks released.
